Babe Ruth Sold Creates ‘Curse of Bambino’

Ruth was a powerhouse for the Red Sox.

In his 1919 season he broke the major league home run record with 29 and led the American League with 114 runs-batted-in and 103 runs.

In 1918 Ruth pitched a total of 29 2/3 scoreless World Series innings for the beantown faithful which set a league record that would stand for forty-three years.

The Curse of the Bambino would mean the Red Sox would not win another World Series until 2004.

His playing time was divided on the mound and in the outfield. Beyond his hundred plus games in the grass, he also went 9-5 as a pitcher.

Given his ability to both pitch and hit, he climbed past Georgian Ty Cobb as the game’s biggest star.
