A parasite called rat lungworm, which gets into people’s brains, has infected more than a dozen people including toddlers in the continental United States in recent years per federal officials.

And more cases may have gone unreported, because the parasite often does not cause severe symptoms, and it’s been found across several states.

Rat Lungworm In Hawaii

In 2019 Hawaii issued a public health warning about the brain eating parasite.

The Centers for Disease Control were required to act when numerous people came down with headaches, low grade fever, nausea, and vomiting. The parasites in Hawaii were associated with eating expired poi, but there have been cases in the continental United States also.

Hawaii residents might be encouraged to find their clown faced spider instead given they are not poisonous.
