Marian Wright Edelman is an American activist for children’s rights. She has advocated her entire professional life for children and disadvantaged Americans. She is founder and president emerita of the Children’s Defense Fund.
Edelman was the first African American woman admitted to The Mississippi Bar in 1964 and she was elected the first Black woman on the Yale board of trustees in 1971.
